John Lee Hooker um dos maiores nomes do blues e considerado o pai do boogie, nasceu em Clarksdale, no Mississippi. Hooker conheceu o blues ainda jovem, quando seus pais se separaram e sua mãe se casou com o músico William Moore, que tocava blues. Trabalhou durante algum tempo em fábricas de tecido, até ser descoberto pelo empresário Bernie Besman em 1948. Neste mesmo ano lança seu primeiro LP "Sally Mae". Este disco continha "Boogie Chilen" seu maior sucesso, que estoura nas paradas. Com esse disco Hooker começa a ganhar grande destaque e o Boogie entra na moda. Depois disso mais de 100 discos foram lançados por ele (isso mesmo mais de 100!).
